Release train engineer (RTE)

Leading agile release train (ART) for developing, deploying and, where appropriate, operating solutions together with stakeholders. Facilitating ART events and processes and supporting teams in delivering results, communicating with stakeholders, escalating in the event of obstacles, collaborating in risk management, driving improvements.

The main differences by competency level are as regards:

  • Products/management: complexity, dynamics, security relevance
  • Scope: e.g. from operational to strategic level
  • Stakeholders: e.g. within the company, across companies, outside the company

Professional Tasks

  • Reviewing and ensuring the agreed processes and methods
  • Identifying and remedying vulnerabilities and barriers such as technology debt, resource bottlenecks
  • Supporting the tracking of the execution of features and capabilities
  • Creating and communicating the annual planning for iterations and PIs
  • Summarizing team PI objectives into program PI objectives and publishing these for visibility and transparency
  • Supporting economic decision-making by facilitating feature and capability estimation by teams and roll-up to Epics
  • Managing PI risks and dependencies
  • Operating within lean budgets and ensuring compliance with their guardrails
  • Supporting system and solution demos
  • Supporting continuous improvement through Inspect and Adapt workshops
  • Promoting communities of practice and implementing engineering and built-in quality processes
